The evening features a feature film presented by Black Cat Cinema Series, followed by three short films curated by our partnering organizations.
This collection of award-winning queer films personifies queercore filmmaking. Some were made for literally zero dollars, without a crew or proper sound. Others were supported and held by film funds. All of them are a prism of queerness and singularity.

Queercore filmmaking is a cultural and social movement that began in the mid-1980s as an offshoot of the punk subculture. It is distinguished by its discontent with society in general, and specifically society's disapproval of the LGBTQ+ community.
Queercore filmmaking is often microbudget, but it can also be held by a hefty and fulsome budget. Queercore is something embedded into the heart, blood and DNA of a LGBTQ+ film. Something is always at risk emotionally, spiritually, and in how the film is dreamt up and made in queercore cinema. These are films made with a deep “indie film lifer” obsession with film and filmmaking, to borrow Sean Baker’s phrase.
Cinema and making queer film are the forefront. Fuck excuses, fuck the word “no,” the only thing stopping us as filmmakers from making our films is our own lack of imaginations and self-doubt. Don’t talk about it, get off the floor and fucking do it. Get out and make our films and then share them with the world. Filmmaking no matter what.
